Types

This species is currently undescribed and there are no types.

Distribution

Known from one site only: Pools farthest from the entrance in Cueva de Maravillas, Municipio Acatlan de Perez, Figueroa, Oaxaca, Mexico (Mosier 1984 and see Elliott 2020 for description and survey). Rhamdia reddelli is also known from this cave but in a lake (Cavefish Lake) closer to the entrance. It is not known if R. reddelli is also found in the further lake which holds this species.

Habitat

Not known in detail.

Biological Notes

This fish is though to be different to Rhamdia reddelli because it has a very distinct long ribbon-like caudal fin.

Museum Holdings

As far as is known this species has never been collected and no Museum specimens are known.
