Checklist of subterranean amphibia

This new section of the web site, devoted to the only other Vertebrata, besides fishes, that have troglobitic and troglomorphic species, the Amphibia, is a long-standing aspiration.

In order to save time the very many bibliographic references for the nine species in the genus Proteus are only entered for Proteus anguinus. The only exceptions to this are the species accounts for the 7 currently undescribed species. Once these original species accounts are published (none are so far) they will be added to the relevant species entry.
