Holotype: GZNU20120701001, 71.73 mm TL, 56.78 mm SL.

Paratypes: GZNU20150112001–GZNU20150112021, 70.40–96.68 mm TL, 53.91–86.9 mm SL; GZNU20120809001–GZNU20120809003, 77.62–88.58 mm TL, 60.6–68.46 mm SL;GZNU20120701002, 67.14 mm TL, 50.86 mm SL.


Known only from the type locality: An underground river in a cave in Shuangrufeng (which means Double Breast Hill) Scenic, Etian Village, Zhexiang Township, Zhenfeng County, Guizhou Province, China. (25°28′25.9″N, 105°37′54.9″E), altitude 1,060 m.


The cave entrance is approximately 4 m deep and 3 m wide. The underground river is the important drinking water supplier of the local community. The habitat of S. zhenfengensis is situated about 50 m away from the cave entrance, could only be reached by swimming, and is in complete darkness.
