Holotype: ZSM 27171 58.9mm SL. Paratypes: ZSM/CMK 5991 16 specimens; NIFI uncatalogued 4 specimens; MSNVR 1363. Kottelat (1990a:49) states that only one specimen was given to this institution but goes on to give a size range (45.8mm ‑ 67.2mm SL). This anomaly is unexplained.
Distribution
Known only from the type locality: Tham Ba Dun, Amphoe Sri Sawat, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand (c.14oN, 99oE). This cave is probably in the Mae Nam Kwae Yai drainage basin.

This species is only known from subterranean streams in caves in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand. Given the limited number of locations, the nature of the hydrological system and the likely limited extent of occurrence, the species is assessed as Vulnerable (D2).
