Holotype: KIZ 2012000542 50.5mm SL.
Distribution
Known only from the type locality: Outlet of a subterranean river in a cave, draining to Nanpanjiang River, Luoxiong Town, Luoping County, Yunnan, China, 24°50'35"N, 104°23'12"E.
Habitat
Not known, the fish is only known from the cave entrance and the cave has not been explored. P. translucens coexists with Sinocyclocheilus rhinocerous at this site.
Systematics
There are currently only two species in the genus Paralepidocephalus, the second being the epigean Paralepidocephalus yui Tchang 1935. Paralepideocephalus guishanensis Li 2004 is a synonym of P. yui (Liu, Yang and Chen 2106).
