Holotype: 990418004 110mm SL. Paratypes: 990418002 – 03, 990418005 – 08, 990420001 – 02, 990422001 – 04 (12 specimens) 64-137mm SL. Types kept at Heilongtan Reservoir, Shilin County, Yunnan, China and Department of Biology, Yunnan University.
Distribution
Known only from the type locality: Shadong Cave, Lingyun County, Guangxi, China (24o20’N, 106o32’E). This species coexists at the type locality with Triplophysa lingyunensis and Sinocyclocheilus microphthalmus (Romero et al. 2009, Li et al. 2000). This in one of only two known instances where three troglobitic fishes are found together, the other being Garra typhlops, Garra lorestanensis and Eidinemacheilius smithi in Iran.

Systematics
Morphologically similar to Sinocyclocheilus jii Zhang and Dai 1992.
Peng and Yang (2021) determine the complete mitochondrial genome of this species. Their phylogenetic conclusions were that it is sister species to S. yishanensis (a troglophile) and these two species together are sister to S. ronganensis (questionably a troglobite). All three species are members of the clade cyphotergous.
Biological Notes
Shadong Cave also contains a very troglomorphic crustacean Macrobrachium lingyunense Li, Cai and Clarke, 2006 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Palaemonidae) (Pan, Hou and Li 2010).
